Hundreds of kilometres of well-maintained hiking routes offer the perfect opportunity to enjoy the natural landscapes of Zillertal. While activities undertaken in the tributary valleys of Mayrhofen are of the more leisurely kind, alpine pros can feed their thirst for adventure on hundreds of mountain peaks in every grade of difficulty. Everything can be found here, ranging from gentle walks, to easy hikes, hut to hut tours and alpine adventures.

The mountain terminals of Mayrhofner Bergbahnen cable car systems (Mounts Penken and Ahorn) are the starting point of a veritable plethora of mountain tours and high-altitude hikes. Here, in an alpine world dominated by flora and fauna, you can find rare animal species as well as brightly coloured alpine flowers such as gentian and arnica, and even the occasional orchid.

In addition to popular sport climbing & bouldering areas, enthusiastic climbers will enjoy the facilities offered by Zillertal Climbing Centre, especially in bad weather. Several via Ferrate climbing routes in the surrounding area also offer inexperienced climbers the opportunity to acquire a taste for "climbing air".

Anyone who has ever experienced the stream of clear mountain Zillertal air from the saddle, already knows there is probably no better place in the world for cycling enthusiasts. The impressive natural landscapes and well-developed network of roads and trails tick all the boxes for every cycling genre, ranging from family touring enthusiasts to pros.

Freeriders can look forward to challenging single trails, while families enjoy the wonderful natural landscapes of the valley bed, along the 30-km long Zillertal Cycle Path. Racing cyclists feel right at home on the Zillertaler Höhenstraße Alpine Road and Gerlos Pass road, with steep climbs, winding bends and a huge choice of peaks to surmount along the way.

Those seeking the ultimate adrenalin kick will find just the kind of summer experiences they are looking for at local action clubs, who offer white-water rafting, canyoning, paragliding and much more. Kids will feel right at home at the local playgrounds, which include Mayrhofner Water Games, or the extensive Auenland. Mayrhofen Skate Park is yet another popular meeting place, especially for teenagers!
